Tokyo Olympic Games Go Kawaii
The Tokyo Olympic Games are finally starting this Friday and I’m looking forward to seeing a lot of Japan on my TV for a couple of weeks. If you’d like a souvenir, there’s some official kawaii merchandise and collaborations available to buy.
The official mascots Miraitowa & Someity are maybe not as uniquely kawaii as you might expect from Japan but they’re still pretty cute, especially the pink Paralympic mascot. The official Tokyo 2020 shop (JP – requires forwarding service) has plenty products featuring them including plush, stationery, t-shirts and even pins for every sport.
I’m a little shocked that Hello Kitty has decided to support Team USA, ignoring both her birthplace of London and spiritual home of Japan! Good on Sanrio USA though as it’s a very cute collaboration. Many items are already sold out but there’s still Funko Pops, pins and t-shirts to choose from.
Kidrobot (US) also have some cute blind boxes to try your luck on with mini vinyl figures and keychains. I love all the little sports equipment.
Licca-chan is ready to cheer on Japan in very elegant style. There’s 2 limited edition dolls dressed in summer yukata to match the Olympic & Paralympic colours. They’re sold out in a lot of places but Dolls.moe (EU) have stock.
Practice your Japanese with this Tokyo Olympic Games Manga at OMG Japan (JP). It tells the story of the city’s history with the Olympic Games and each page is printed in both English and Japanese to help you learn. They also run a shopping service, White Rabbit Express, that can help you source other products.
